According to a survey conducted by the National Association of State Workforce Agencies, employer funded unemployment insurance taxes will increase in 35 states in 2010.

Twenty-four states will see increases in the state's taxable wage base, or the level of each employee's wages that is subject to a payroll tax on employers. 28 states report that tax rates on employers in those states will increase in 2010. Of course, in some cases BOTH the wage base and the tax rate will increase. Revenue from unemployment insurance taxes in 35 states is expected increase in 2010 when compared to 2009.

The state with the highest taxable wage base in 2010 will be Hawaii ($38,800), while Arizona, California, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, and South Carolina each will have the lowest taxable wage base ($7,000), NASWA reports.
