Attention Nanny Employers! Federal Income Tax Withholding Changes in 2010
Nanny employers who withhold (deduct) their employee's Federal Income Taxes should re-calculate the withholding rate for 2010. New federal rates are available at the 4nannytaxes.com website - just be sure to select the correct tax year in the drop down!
When you make the change to the nanny's withholding, please send us your new net pay calculation (> Action > Submit Payroll Change) so your permanent records are updated. You must be logged into your personal account to do so.
You will note that the amount of federal withholding will increase a bit. This is due to the "Making Work Pay" tax credit enacted with the 2009 stimulus bill. In 2009, the credit was applied to 9 months of earnings (April - December), and in 2010 the credit is spread across the full 12 months. The credit is in effect for tax years 2009 and 2010. It is advanced to employees through payroll by modified income tax withholding tables.
Additionally, the IRS is reminding taxpayers who are married with two incomes, or taxpayers with multiple jobs to consider modifying their W-4 forms and decrease their withholding allowances. Failure to do so could result in a larger than expected amount of tax due at year end.
HomeWork Solutions provides nanny payroll and nanny tax compliance services nationwide since 1993.
