More Unemployment Tax Increases Announced
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has announced an increase in the taxable wage base from $7,000 for 2009 to $9,500 for 2010. For most employers this marks a 35% increase in the unemployment tax over the year.
In Nevada, the wage base will increase from $26,600 for 2009 to $27,000 for 2010. New Hampshire, Minnesota, Florida and Arkansas have also all increased their wage base for 2010. The nation's persistently high unemployment rate, coupled with extensions of benefits periods have combined to push almost half of state's unemployment funds into insolvency.
